Bayh-Dole Bulletin: Edition 6

Welcome to the Bayh-Dole Bulletin, a monthly newsletter from the Bayh-Dole Coalition. The Bayh-Dole Coalition is a diverse group of innovation-oriented organizations and individuals committed to celebrating and protecting the Bayh-Dole Act, as well as informing policymakers and the public of its many benefits.

About the Bayh-Dole Coalition

A Word From Our Executive Director

As you receive this newsletter, our nation is on the brink of a historic election. No matter how it turns out, we will have a new Administration and Congress in a few months. The Bayh-Dole Coalition is planning an exciting agenda to take advantage of that opportunity. As you know, we have a well-honed media team in place and recently added Kate Beale and her associates as our Washington liaisons. We will be presenting an optimistic vision to the new Administration and Congress of the critical role the Bayh-Dole Act plays in our economy, national security, and well-being, as well as improving lives around the globe.

We will also be having a special celebration as 2025 is the 45th anniversary of the enactment of Bayh-Dole. We are coming to the end of a year where the future of the law was in the greatest jeopardy in its history. Because of your help and support, we have met that challenge, although we aren’t home-free yet. But we should all feel good about the progress we have made working together.

One final word: We can only be successful if we have the financial support to transmit our message on a national stage. If you can make a donation, it will greatly help. Every dollar we receive is put to good use. Here’s the link to donate.

Let’s make 2025 our best year ever!

“Throughout my career in tech transfer, I have seen firsthand how the Bayh-Dole Act fosters collaboration between research institutions and the private sector. By allowing universities and small businesses to retain patent rights for inventions developed with federal funding, the United States has become a leader in innovation, which drives economic growth and enhances public access to cutting-edge, life-saving technologies. I am proud to partner with the Bayh-Dole Coalition in preserving a law that empowers people from all walks of life to bring their ideas to market.” — Laura Schoppe, Founder and President, Fuentek LLC and Chief Commercialization Officer, TechPipeline Inc.
